Where TestGorilla fits in Bain's hiring process
Bain switched to TestGorilla in 2022, replacing the older SOVA assessment. The TestGorilla assessment sits between your application and the first-round interview. You'll receive an emailed link with a 3–7 day deadline to complete it. Almost every consulting candidate — Associate Consultant, Consultant, and most experienced hires — takes it.
The four sections
Each section is independently timed at roughly 10 minutes. Once you submit an answer you cannot return to it, and your webcam is monitored throughout.
- Numerical Reasoning — data interpretation, percentage change, ratios from charts and tables.
- Business Judgment — scenario-based multiple choice testing strategic prioritization.
- Leadership & People — situational judgment around team dynamics and conflict.
- Problem Solving — pattern recognition and logical deduction puzzles.
How it's scored
Each sub-skill within a section is scored on a 1–3 scale. Section scores combine into a composite that Bain benchmarks against the applicant pool. There is no published passing score, but candidate reports suggest passing requires roughly the 50th percentile or above across all four sections.
Put it into practice
The fastest way to internalize the format is timed practice that mirrors the real test.
